CORPORATES IN EDUCATION

Images of Infosys mentor Narayan Murthy at IIT brings in a thought that can change a lot in this country if realized.

Census 2001 reveals population of India to be 1.02 billion. If we estimate today’s youth under 15 to be around 150 million and consider that at least a fifth will go for graduation then about 30 million is the head count of Indian Education System.

In three four years of graduation and skill learning, every student spend about 1 lac on an average. Simple maths. In near future the total value of Indian Education System is about 3000 billion rupees. Wonderful, isn’t it?

Before all the potent talent and economics is dumped into pockets of barely legal (at times illegal) institutions or foreign universities may mushroom around; its high time for firms like Infosys, Wipro, Reliance, Tata to enter the education system and make this country human-resource rich.
